  • 05/19/06 (1:13 AM): I'm working on my photos... I took over 400, be patient. Still adjusting to time the difference. This was a great shot I thought. About as much color as you see this time of the year up there. I was there just before Spring started there. Happy to find out it was still Spring here and I didn't miss it. But, when I left there were no leaves on the trees, when I came back, there was! Flying over Arizona was red, over Alaska white and over NY... green!

  • 05/16/06 (12:35 AM): So in Alaska time it is 8:35PM on May 15. That's where my body thinks it should be. I took today and tomorrow off of work to re coop and I find myself highly restless. I need to acclimate my times back to normal, but I'm so NOT tired. It's unfortunate. However, my trip was great. Just what I needed. Except I'm not looking forward to going back to work, it's gonna be a zoo and I'm the feature animal exhibit. I think I'll survive though. One thing I am looking forward to... Season Finale's. Happy Day! I like my programs a little too much. I have little time to devote to watching TV. However I have so many hours recorded on our DVR of programs to watch. I'm looking forward to catching up and having no TV to watch. I'm looking forward to going camping. I'm looking forward to wearing my flippies and not having cold toes. I'm looking forward to planting things in the garden and mowing my gram's lawn. I'm looking forward to festivals and thunderstorms. I'm just so happy it's getting warm again. I left to Alaska and the trees were budding. Up there it snowed twice and was below freezing at night. I come back to a warm breeze and leaves everywhere, it's great. I even got to see my tulips blooming, although they are on their last leg of life. So that is my evening's rant. I'm going to go try to find something to occupy me until I'm tired enough to sleep (which is wonderful sleeping in my own bed again).

  • 05/08/06 (6:04 AM Alaska Time): This weekend we headed up to Denali National State Park. It was a long drive (6 hours), but gorgeous landscape. We set up camp in the campgrounds and then drove through the park to Teklanika looking for wildlife. Aaron was very excited because normally they do not allow you to travel that far into the park. Buses usually take you in, but they were not running this early. We saw some Ptarmigan (Alaska State Bird) in it's white form. Normally in the summer it's a gray color and is harder to spot. We also some some Snow shoe hairs (bunnies) and a bunch of Caraboo.

No bears or Moose for me though. I've yet to see a moose yet. Camping was fun, but cold. I did get to see Mt. McKinley from afar, it cleared up enough. I guess you only see it about 2/7 days of the week because of weather. I saw it both days, which is lucky. It's called Denali here by the natives, they tried to get the named changed, but I guess some dick congressman in Ohio won't allow it. It is the highest mountain in North America. Here it is the arrow is pointing at the north peak, it looks small in the photo, but it was far away. You can see all the weather around it. Fierce.

Then we drove home. We stopped in Talkeetna to check out the ranger station. Currently 160 people climbing Denali. We got a yummy calzone and drove the distance home.

Today Aaron had to work so I did some downtown shopping and had a Reindeer sausage. Then we went to go to the museum, but it was closed. Instead we headed to Gurdwood. It's a great drive down the coast of the inlet. Lots of mountains and sheep on the them. Saw them from afar. Now Del and I are off for some Sushi... yumma!

  • 05/06/06 (7:45 AM Alaska Time): My first day in Alaska! Aaron took me to Snow City Cafe for breakfast. Then we headed to Flat Top Peak

to check out the views. It was truly fantastic. Although my clumsy ass fell. My foot went through the snow as we were descending from an overlook and I lost my balance and fell. Right onto the steps. I have a charming bruise. After that we went to the Anchorage zoo. We saw lots of native animals, but our favorite was the polar bear named Ahpun.

After the zoo we met up with Adele back at the apartment. We went to REI (Recreation Equipment Inc.) and Aaron got his new shades. Then we went to the Moose's Tooth to feast on some yummy pizza, Chicken Ranch and Sun Dried Tomato Pesto. We washed it down with some Apple Cider, yum! Hopefully I'll post again soon!
