  • 6/17/07 (8:44 PM): This weekend I went to The Torpedo Factory in search of my class supply list, which there isn't one. But, the Torpedo Factory is filled with all artist studio with a tone of art on display and for sale. It was really cool to walk around and look. Old Arlington is full of cool shops, but I resisted the urge. I spend easily. So, instead I whipped out my "60 Hikes within 60 miles" and did hike #26 The Winkler Botanical Preserve. It was a nice stroll. Nothing too exciting or challenging, but I nice walk in the woods with nothing but my iPod and my camera. You can see these photos at my Flickr.

Today I went to the Luray caverns with my new friend Garry. The drive out there I think was the best part. Lots of lush green and mountains in the background. Really beautiful country. It was a gorgeous sunny day and the windows were down. Luray Caverns are pretty good caverns. I've been to a few, so I know what the idea is, but it is always cool to go and see them again. So beautiful what nature can do. The highlight I think was the pool underground. Really shallow, but completly still. It produces a clear mirron image of the ceiling, so it looks amazing. You can also see these photos at my Flickr.

  • 6/16/07 (10:48 AM): Yesterday I found the Wegmans. I decided to mapquest it by avoiding highways. This way I get to see a lot of what is around me, since usually you take the highways everywhere. But, since it was rush hour and I was going to be stuck in traffic either way, I decided to go where I had things to look at.

The Wegmans here is just amazing. They have all my brands and favorites (like my bread I have not found anywhere else) and much more. The have entire Mahi Mahi fish sitting on ice, already scaled, but with the head and tail and everything. Huge Crab legs, just about any seafood you could want. They also have a million mushrooms I've never seen. They even have morrells (at $40/lb.), which are hard to find, but my dad used to hunt them out. They even had truffles (the mushroom, not chocolate, you know, like the pigs hunted in the cartoons) for $400/lb.! I bought myself a rib eye steak, artichokes and some steamer clams. YUM! I felt like a good meal and had I gone (by myself) to a restaurant I would have paid at least $30 or more. It was tasty. Today, I think I'm going to jump in my car and drive away from DC and see what I find! Maybe I'll look up a hike in my "60 hikes within 60 miles of DC" book.

I also signed up for a Screen Printing class at the Art League in Arlington. So I guess I'm going to go there and see what materials I need for the class! That will be Monday nights starting next week. This Monday I'm going to a baseball game!

  • 6/10/07 (10:22 PM): I went to the zoo today. It was fun. I took more photos of flowers than of the animals though... the flowers were more cooperative. These are a few of my favorites, see them all at my flickr.

  • 6/10/07 (9:09 AM): So, I ventured into DC. I went to The Phillips Collection and Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. I took many photos. Then, I lost my metro card. Damn. So I took a cab to meet my roommate Bethany and her friend Lia at the Georgetown waterfront for some Pizza, Ice Cream and people watching. We strolled around the waterfront and let the dogs walk themselves. It's really cute. Brady takes the leash in his mouth and walks with us. People just think it's adorable (I have to agree). After we came home, we picked up Amanda and headed back to DC to see the Memorials at night. Wow, they are amazing. I saw the Lincoln, Jefferson, Roosevelt, WW2 and Washington.

Today, I think I'm going to go to the zoo. Then maybe the aquarium... both are free. All the museums (except for the Phillips, which I used my student ID at) are free. Here is a photo of me and my two new roommates. Amanda is in the middle, Bethany is on the right. They are so cute and very nice!

  • 6/9/07 (1:25 PM): Update on the new life... it's been a while. I spend my first two weekends traveling home, so I haven't really settled into anything just yet. I had Sara's wedding two weekends ago and last weekend I went home for my Mom's graduation (so proud of her). I also saw Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace in PA with Lydia. Breaking Benjamin was awesome, Three Days Grace was a little disappointing.

Thursday I played my first company softball game. I was all worried that I was going to suck, but it turns out the team itself has a lot of people playing that have never played before, so I'm like really good in comparison. One girl even called me the all star because I caught like 4 pop flys. I hit really well too, in the outfield almost every time! They are happy to have me on the team and I'm glad to be playing again. Although my jersey says "DEB" on the back, which is confusing for people. I missed the shirt ordering, so I got someone who couldn't play. Which is fine, I don't really care as long as I get to play. William let me borrow his bug spray cause of the bugs.... what bugs I ask you, I dunno. He said they were bad, but I didn't see a bug. Now, back home on the fields entire swarms of bugs surround you in the outfield... those are bugs. Too funny. But holy crap, it's hot!! I'm melting. Our first game was relatively cool too, so I know I'm going to melt. I need to find some gym shorts somewhere, my supply has dwindled over the years and the elastic is going in my last pair. Yesterday the high was 96 and summer is just getting started. Today the high is 88, so not too bad.

Last night I went to a party with my roommate, Bethany. That was really fun. I'm glad to have gone to a social setting! I drank some beer, played some beer pong and made a s'more. Good times. Today I'm going to venture the subway and go into DC. I think I'm going to check out The Phillips Collection, modern art. I've been wanting to paint again, maybe this will inspire me. Then later I'm meeting up with Bethany and one of our neighbors, Lea, in Georgetown. And, I finally found my camera, so I can take photos! Wish I could find my stamps... those are still lost in the shuffle. Only a few misc. boxes left, just need to organize myself.
